The Northside Community Guest Home commissioned Trifos Design Consultants to design a 39-bed expansion to be located on a sloped waterfront lot. In order to meet the site's constraint of topography, geometry, and size, the design created a unique courtyard solution so as to ameliorate the challenging issues.
The architecture reflected the traditional maritime vernacular of the neighbourhood, incorporating view railings, sloped roofs, and traditional trims, arches, and clapboard.
The architecture supports the Eden Alternative™ concept by clustering the residents into distinct neighbourhoods, creating garden spaces, comfortable, home-like architectural ambiance of a residential scale, traditional detailing, and calm, healing interiors.
The design incorporated extensive structural interventions, and created a new cantilevered superstructure over the existing seating area.
