Kolara Investments Limited commissioned Trifos Design Consultants to design a new, four-storey, 64,000 square foot, medical/professional building, to be located on land to the north of the existing Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
The facility is linked to the main entry level of the existing Cape Breton Regional Hospital facility by an environmentally-controlled pedestrian bridge. Tenancy spaces were designed and created for health-care related activities; such as medical offices, clinics, pharmacy, and other required wellness facilities and support services for visitors, staff, and medical personnel. The building is constructed of a cast-in-place concrete frame, metal stud-wall/modular, aluminum-panel wall cladding, and aluminum fenestration and curtain-wall systems. Service infrastructure was designed to accommodate future medical- occupancy requirements for plumbing, ventilation, electrical, and communication systems.
This new facility has created an abundance of new, medical services space for patient and staff services not currently available within the confines of the existing Cape Breton Regional Hospital structure and site. Flexible and adaptable, the new facility provides the optional flexibility to relocate current hospital facilities; thereby, creating critical expansion capacity for existing space-constrained departments.
